At the moment, I am sitting at the “Sub Hub,” the new addition to the Student Union Building. It used to be the “Quiet Lounge.” Fun fact, the Quiet Lounge was what pretty much sealed the deal for me attending Truman. It was a great place to study, though it was too quiet at times. They had these HUGE-O trees inside and big windows and it was kind of closed-off of the rest of campus. However, due to renovations, they tore it down and now, here I am, in the Sub Hub. The good thing about it, is that it just sort of is an extension to the library, only you can bring food and listen to music outloud. Thanks, Truman!
Okay, design-wise, things have been going WHACK!
Aside from classes, I have been working on some projects. Here’s the run-down. (Pictures to be added later).
For Viscom, we just finished creating logos for a client of our choice, mine being the corporate House of Blues, along with the Houston House of Blues. The next project is creating a corporate website, which is what I’m currently in the works of doing. I am still on paper and we are supposed to be on computer comps. I’m moving slowly but surely, I hope I can pull it off in the end.
In Motion Graphics, we just finished our Wonderbread stop-motion pieces. I did a play on John Mayer’s “Your Body Is A Wonderland.” It's pretty funny, I’ll have to upload that video somewhere on the interwebz. The next project we’re working on is taking one of Bruce Mau’s manifestos and creating a three 30 second motion pieces depicting our interpretation of said manifestos. One clip has to be text dominant, the other being illustration dominate and the last being negative space dominant. The manifest I chose to do was his first one : ALLOW EVENTS TO CHANGE YOU. It pretty much goes with the theme of my past summer as well as things that are going on in my life right now. Should be a good time.
Faust Haus-wise, I just finished a postcard and it was pretty ballin’. It was a nice break from the monotony of school work.
Detours, the school travel mag, has me doing two layouts, two stories. One is about a drive-in, the other about Mark Twain, I believe. I haven't really started. The stories are submitted but are still up for editing. And I don’t have the pictures yet, so it’s a work in progress.
FAPFAPFAP (Fine Arts Publications) has me working on dos things. One is the University Gallery logo. I’m on Round 7 of revisions. Shoutout to Leah, since I’m keeping organized with my rounds of logos, holla!!! I am also working on an 11x17 poster for the music department, a “New Music Festival,” with guest composer, Mark Koval. Mark Koval composed some music for Bobby’s World and other cool stuff like that, and has two Emmy-nominations under his belt for his scores. So that’s pretty badass.
Most recently. Like. Yesterday, I recently signed on to be the (only) designer for Representative Rebecca McClanahan’s campaign, mostly working with direct mail pieces with her campaign manager, Andrew. Jimmy totally hooked me up with this gig, so shoutout to Jimbo.
MISC Design stuff : working on a website for Professor Pauls, my favorite art faculty member...maybe even faculty member at Truman. I will also be taking part of PR for BOB Prom. My theme idea won! The theme is : “NOW THAT’S WHAT I CALL PROM : 2008.” Poster ideas? I’m thinking crazy, whacky, VH1/80s/NOW cd inspired craziness. For the locker gallery, I will be collaborating with Peter to create a design for the website. Meaning I’ll design and he’ll code. It's a sweet deal we’ve got going.
The next few weeks are going to be INSANE IN THE MEMBRANE.
Here’s to stress-(almost)free days and easy-going clients. Yes?
Jess! This is amazing. Don't forget the store in Brooklyn!!! I am still waiting to meet with them, so hoepfully it will sync up with your insane schedule. I want to work on it with you!
ReplyDeleteAre you still planning on coming to CA this winter? When? Cause I want to plan a trip to NYC for a shoot and to work on the store. Maybe we can rendezvous there instead???? Or both!
