Earthquake!

I meant to write about this but I forgot, but now that I had some extra time on my hands, I figure I might as well write about the Earthquake that happened on Easter.

But first, the summer I worked here (2008), I experienced an Earthquake that wasn’t tooooo crazy...I believe it was like a 5.5 or somewhere around that range. Anyway, it just felt like a big dumpster was driving super close to the studio. But the EQ on Easter was a 7.2! Here’s what I was up to:

I had just gotten home and had taken a few sleeping pills to try to get some rest. I have been having problems going to sleep as of late and just wanted to sleep! (long story) I awoke an hour later because I thought my neighbors were getting it on (pretty well since the walls are concrete). I sorta woke up and saw that my blinds were swinging back and forth! I looked up and my ceiling fan was shaking! I felt the whole bed shaking and at first, I though “Am I hung over?” but then I realized I haven’t even had alcohol in weeks (yeah, I know) AND it was the middle of the day on a Easter Sunday (I know, no excuses).

My mind then started racing and I could hear people outside my door running down the stairs (My room is right by the stairwell) and saying things like “Hurry, go!” Aren’t you supposed to just stand between a doorframe? Who knows, I’m still fairly new around here. At this point, I had ran to my door to look out the peephole and then I hurried back to my nightstand to grab my iPhone. I quickly contemplated grabbing my MBP but thought I’d be fine. I then walked back to my front door, only realizing that I needed to grab my keys. ALL AWHILE THE ROOM STILL SHAKING. I walked back to my desk but was rattled (ha) and forgot what I had come back for. I grabbed my keys and then ran down the stairs. Things I realized: good thing I had pants on.

I made it outside and I guess people on the ground floor didn’t really feel anything because everyone was going on like nothing happened. In conclusion, I prefer earthquakes at Dairy Queen over earthquakes in downtown LA.
