Spring Breakdown

I’m technically on Spring Break or Midterm Break, or whatever Truman’s calling it nowadays. So far, it’s been okay--- last Thursday, after a horrible Wednesday night, I dragged my hung-over ass to OP for a 1.5 hour long critique in Capstone. Matt didn’t enjoy my annual report, but that was expected. Not enough of an experience, I guess. After critique, Michelle, Zach and I peace’d out and I went home to finish packing for STL.

CHIP KIDD! Is the author of one of my favorite books, The Cheese Monkeys. I read that book over the summer, after Leah told me I would probably really enjoy it--and of course I did. He was speaking at UMSL and of course we couldn’t pass up the opportunity, being graphic design nerds. His talk was FANTASTIC---almost as fantastic as his outfit... he was wearing a wonderful striped cap, a great striped blazer AND...best part ever, these fabulous shoes that had just the perfect hint of red. Anyway, we stood in line after the presentation and he signed The Cheese Monkeys, the Comic Con nametag Leah/Brian got me over the summer and I got a pic. Totally star-struck...I am a complete spaz.

So after Chip Kidd, Michelle, Zach and I went to some STL pizza joint, Cecil Whittakers or something like that. Zach swears up and down that it’s da bomb, it was pretty good, I’ll admit. We dropped Zach off at his house, I met his nice fam and his really cute dog, Charlie. Then, Michelle and I headed back to her house to pass out.

The next morn, we headed to CoMo to pick up Elizabeth and then we headed to Blue Springs. They met the ’rents and then we got Trotts and we headed to the plaza for some (window) shopping. Things I want to go back and get :

1. Gladiator sandals from Urban.
2. Heart earrings from that store next to American Apparel.
3. Shirt from American Apparel.

With what money, you ask? Psh, I don’t know. I ended up buying two things : Inkjet Velum Paper (nice!) and the new issue of Nylon from B&N. We ate dinner at Uno’s, where the waiter awkwardly flirted with me/us. Gross. After that, I went home and watched LOST with Jilly.

The next day was the AIGA KC Portfolio Review. We hooked up with Abby, Becky, Breanne and Amanda and we got our portfolios reviewed and listened to some presentations. All-in-all, a pretty good day. I got some pretty good feedback. I’m getting used to these things, I guess. Anyway, we ate lunch for two hours, which was a waste, but we talked to some interesting people. I met the cutest asian from Brown University---he's from Taiwan and he does photography. A-dorable! Afterwards, I got dropped off and then I went to a 50th Wedding Anniversary party-thing with the fam. A pretty busy-weekend. Yesterday, I slept all day. Today? I’m going to the dentist (yeah, cleaning!) and I am going to work on viscom ALLLLL day lonnnng.

I miss things in Kirksville, though. And it’s only Monday. What am I going to do after graduation? I guess I can use this break to forget about shit, like I drunkenly said I would, but it’s really hard. And it fucking sucks.
