I woke up bright and early (maybe I'll become a morning person, prob not) a bit before 8a and just hung around for awhile. I got a call from work and I thought they were going to have me come in, but instead, I had to go to this "new employee orientation" thing at 2p. I figured I'd go work out and then just walk to the HR building of BL since it was pretty close to 24Hr Fitness. I had a pretty solid workout-- I'm back in the habit of the treadmill again and since I got up a bit earlier, I got to watch some Maury while running. Man, I haven't seen Maury in forever, it seems. Definitely remembered watching it on MWF first semester last school year in between Illustration and Viscom.
Okay, so after I worked out and killed it (a nod to my main man TJ Lavin), I walked to my meeting. It wasn't even an hour long and we just got briefed about company standards and met with the Pres, VP, CFO and other important people. I got complimented on my smile like 3 times, boo-yah. Alright, what else.
So after the mtg, I headed to the library to pick up some books to get my read-on. I also have been craving Panda Express since I noticed that they had one in the library on my first day of exploring in LA. So I treated myself to a plate of fried rice, orange chicken and some other chicken that had pineapples in it. The pineapple dish claimed to be spicy but I didn't even taste anything, annoying. The fried rice wasn't that good, actually---all of it was unsatisfactory. At least that craving is gone and I won't feel pressured to eat it whenever I walk by the library (which is EVERY DAY). I picked up a few books and walked through an art exhibit in the Getty Gallery titled: "Richard Neutra, Architect: Sketches and Drawings." Good stuff, man. He had a bunch of work from the early 20s and 30s all done in pencil and crayon. Who knew such great work could come from crayons. The best I've done with my crayolas would be pictures of the Tazmanian Devil from Looney Tunes. In the side gallery, they had a mini-exhibit showcasing work submitted by Hollywood residents after the fire took a lot of memorabilia in flames. I walked through both exhibits and it was very nice. It made me think of all the gallery showings and the good times, friends and food from Truman. After the library, I walked home. Oh, I forgot to mention that they closed off part of the street outside of The Rosslyn because they were taping Boston Legal this morning. Crazy stuff.
So back to my day. On the block that I live on, there are a bunch of small galleries and bookstores. There's one that's always closed called "Polyester" but today when I walked by, they were open! Polyester is an independent bookstore specializing in photography, art, pop culture and erotica. IT WAS DA BOMB. I took some pics but it's on my iPhone and I'm too lazy to get it from the other side of the room. I promise I will put them up next time. Anyway, Polyester had a lot of really neat books, magazines and art. I only stayed for a bit because I wanted to get home to go to the bathroom, but I will definitely be returning. Another exhibit on the far side of the block I live on is the "Los Angeles Neon Art Museum." Yes, it's exactly what it sounds like. God, I live in such a fucking cool place.
The rest of the evening was spent: napping, reading, researching more iPhone apps I want, journaling and watching the new episode of Glee. Glee is SO good, I highly recommend it. Though this week's episode was lacking in musical numbers. Another fab day in LA.
